Philosophy

We believe that childhood is a unique time of life to be valued and enjoyed, and is the time where foundations are laid for lifelong learning, health and wellbeing.

We aim to provide a positive and caring learning environment which promotes the social, physical, intellectual and emotional growth of children in our care.

We value our long-term affiliation with C&K and the input of our management committee, and kindy families, in supporting the management and operation of our service. Our code of ethics and our philosophy are embedded in everything we undertake, and form a basis for our relationships, actions, program and operations.

In relation to children we

  • Ensure a positive and happy atmosphere, where children feel free to express their feelings, laugh, play, have fun and enjoy childhood.
  • Employ educators who are kind, caring and relational, always helping children to feel secure, respected, accepted, included and valued.
  • Promote resilience, a sense of belonging, self-worth, secure attachments and trusting relationships with others.

In relation to our program we

  • Focus on children’s unique interests, abilities, knowledge and skills.
  • Aim to develop active and independent learners in a child initiated and child directed approach, with educators guiding and encouraging learning, creativity and individuality. We encourage children to be both independent and to work collaboratively with their peers, sharing their interests and knowledge confidently with others.
  • Promote communication and problem-solving skills, together with social and cultural learning and awareness, and the capacity to express and acknowledge feelings.
  • Create a stimulating learning environment where play-based experiences are informed by open-ended learning and an emergent curriculum, based on the C&K Curriculum Approach in conjunction with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guide (QKLG) and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
  • Include programming ideas that are constantly being adapted and challenged as a result of critical reflection, professional development, educational leadership, self-assessment and interactions with families.

In relation to the environment we

  • Provide an aesthetically pleasing environment, which is secure, safe, supervised and inviting, and is inclusive of all children, supporting every child’s participation and engagement with play-based learning.
  • Promote good health and physical activity and embed practices throughout the kindy program which encourage awareness of the importance of these in daily living.
  • Encourage a sense of wonder in nature and a concern for looking after the kindy surroundings including the plants, birds and insects in the garden. Respect of the environment, resources and materials is promoted and encouraged, and we support the children to become aware of sustainability practices by being water-wise, minimising waste, composting and recycling materials thoughtfully.

In relation to educators we

  • Have consistent and dependable educators, who develop genuine and secure relationships with children.
  • Believe that it is important to work as a team and be respectful of each member within the team. We create an environment where educators are supportive and positive to each other, valuing the input of each person’s individuality and sharing ideas and abilities. Educators maintain open communication and flexibility regarding roles and responsibilities and take an ethical and professional approach to children and their families.

In relation to families and community we

  • Provide an environment where families are actively involved and encouraged to be part of their child’s learning at kindy. We believe that close contact and co-operation with families is essential in the development of each child, and educators strive to build genuine reciprocal relationships with families.
  • Seek to develop and maintain positive relationships based on trust and respect, two-way communication and participation in service decision-making.
  • Respect and value the individual backgrounds and unique culture and social customs of families.
  • Acknowledge and value Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander peoples and their culture. We acknowledge and pay respect to the Butchulla people, the traditional owners of our land.
  • Include the wider community with community resources represented and included in the program, with families encouraged to make use of local services and to participate in local community events. We communicate with and assist specialist's in meeting needs of children requiring additional support.
  • Promote the value and contribution of our service within the broader community
